Picturesque Lochranza, at the north of the Isle of Arran, has been the location of the island’s first legal distillery for over 150 years. Until the 19th century, Arran was renowned for its Malt Whisky, often made illicitly, and known locally as "Arran Water".
The state of the art visitor centre, opened in 1997 by HM the Queen, offers daily tastings, a shop and CASKS Cafe which serves an interesting and appetising menu based on the best of local produce available. Due to current government regulations, all tastings and CASKS Cafe bookings must be pre-aranged in advance.
If you're making a quick pit stop, the downstairs Coffee Bar which provides snacks and sandwiches to take away, as well as a selection of hot and cold drinks. A visit here at any time is certainly worthwhile.

Many of the whiskies you taste will also be available for purchase in the beautiful Arran Malt gift shop.
Tastings are offered daily. The Core Range Tasting takes place at 11am every day, costs £20 per person and allows you to discover the character of the Arran Single Malt. The Limited Editions tasting takes place at 2pm every day, costs £25 per person and takes you a little deeper into the distillery's rarer bottlings. Perfect for the real whisky lover!
If you have a sweet tooth, you will be interested in booking the Whisky & Arran Chocolate Tasting which takes place at 11am and 3pm daily. This tasting costs £15 per person and pairs Arran Single Malt with chocolates handmade on the island. All tastings are restricted to those aged over 18 years old.
